Weekend Fun: Take an Art Walk, Learn About Honeybees, Plan Mother's Day Fun and More

Bring out your inner "nature nerd" at a fun program this weekend at Lake Crabtree County Park.

Get outside this weekend in the Triangle to help collect data about creatures at Lake Crabtree County Park in Morrisville, explore the innovative and educational Hub Farm in Durham, meander around historic downtown Wendell's Spring into the Arts Walk 2018 and learn about the humble honeybee at a fun program at Historic Oak View County Park in Raleigh. And don't forget about Mom! Mother's Day is this Sunday, May 13.

Nature Nerds FREE

Join staff at Lake Crabtree County Park in Morrisville to “nerd out” over amphibians, birds, insects, spiders and anything else you see or hear along the way. Help collect data for the Natural Resource Inventory Database while increasing your own identification skills. This free activity is set for May 11, noon-1 p.m., and is intended for kids ages 12 and older. Preregister here to make sure you have a spot.

Hub Farm Fest FREE

The Hub Farm in Durham is a 30-acre farm, forest and aquatic habitat with the purpose of engaging students, teachers and the community in all aspects of sustainable farming systems, environmental stewardship, health and nutrition, and career development. On May 12, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., you can stop by the farm’s event for tasty food, gardening, a tour of the property and boating around the pond. All programming is hosted by Durham Public Schools students. The event is free and appropriate for all ages, but they do ask for an RSVP here so they know how much food their culinary students should prepare.

Spring Into the Arts Walk 2018 FREE

On May 12, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., visit historic downtown Wendell for this celebration of visual, fine and performing arts. This third annual event features local artists in an open air art competition throughout downtown Wendell. Enjoy a picnic in the park at J. Ashley Wall Square at noon, and enjoy a bluegrass performance. Visit with artists as they bring their vision to life and learn about their process. The Buzz on Honeybees FREE

Historic Oak View County Park in Raleigh is hosting a special drop-in program about honeybees outside the Farm History Center May 12-13, 2-4 p.m., each day. Attendees can learn about honeybees with lots of fun activities highlighting the importance of these hard-working insects. The event is FREE and appropriate for all ages. No registration is required.
