WakeMed Physician Practices' specialty offerings – including women’s, children’s and all adult specialty practices – now offer virtual, telehealth patient visits in addition to traditional in-person office visits. Telehealth allows patients to have easy access to their healthcare providers from the comfort of their own home by smartphone or tablet.

“At an unprecedented time like this, WakeMed is committed to taking care of our community as we have for so many years,” said Dr. Seth Brody, senior vice president of Physician Services for WakeMed. “We are encouraging our patients to abide by the social distancing that we all need to do, but we also want to help our patients stay healthy and well. We are pleased to offer these expanded telehealth options for our patients for urgent care, primary care, pediatrics and across all of WakeMed Physician Practices specialty services.”

In order to provide care and at the same time prevent further spread of COVID-19 for patients, community and healthcare professionals, virtual care visits are essential and a great option for those who need it, whether an existing patient or someone in the community who may have a need. The people of our community are still dealing with chronic diseases and illnesses that need treatment and follow-up and may have new ailments that are not COVID-19 related.

At this time, virtual visits are covered by insurance. Aside from primary care practices, these telehealth visits are not intended to be an avenue for COVID-19 testing. If you have a concern related to COVID-19, WakeMed's primary care providers can assist you with managing mild symptoms and determining if moderate or severe symptoms require testing and emergency or hospital care.

With the new video visit capabilities, patients are able to participate in a video visit with their provider from the comfort and safety of home, utilize their mobile phone, tablet, or computer to participate in the video visit and access providers from adult specialty practices, primary care, children’s specialty practices, as well as OB-GYNs. Simply set an appointment for your virtual visit and let WakeMed guide you from there.
