Wake County Magnet Schools Host Open Houses

Back To School Kindergarten 315x205

Thinking of sending your child to a Wake County magnet school? One of the best ways to find out more about prospective magnet schools is to attend open houses at the schools, and they’re coming up, starting this week with elementary schools.

Open houses offer insight into magnets’ specialized programs through informational sessions and guided tours. Here’s a look at the upcoming schedule:

Magnet Elementary Schools Open House

Magnet Middle Schools Open House

Tuesday, Nov. 8, is Election Day for Wake, Durham and Orange counties, so don’t forget to vote as education issues will figure prominently. In Durham and Orange counties, voters will be deciding on tax proposals that would fund school initiatives. In Wake County, the most watched election will be the runoff for the Board of Education seat in District 3. Incumbent Kevin Hill, a Democrat, faces off against his Republican challenger, Heather Losurdo, and the direction of Wake County’s public school system hangs in the balance. With the school board’s make-up now split 4-4 between Democrats, who have been voting to support diversity, and Republicans, who have favored school choice, the election will determine whether the school board’s new choice-based assignmentmoves forward or is replaced by another system.
