Triangle Baseball Guide: Here’s When Teams Are Returning
Area clubs are gearing up for the 2021 season.
Baseball is back! After COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the 2020 season, the 2021 season might just be the most anticipated one yet. Players might be a little rusty, but we fans won’t hold it against them. Many of us may have forgotten the words to that old seventh inning stretch song anyway. After all, it’s been a rough year for everyone. As you make your plans, anticipate that state and local restrictions on public gatherings may impact capacities, concessions, activities and social distancing.
Let’s take a look at opening day information for some Triangle baseball teams.
Durham Bulls: the storied Triple-A affiliate of Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays plays their first home game on May 11 against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Single-game tickets will be available on a month-by-month basis as their 919 Club and ticket package holders get first access. Please note: face coverings are required to be worn at the DBAP, unless eating or drinking. Be sure to check out this especially cheeky shirt in the shop.
Carolina Mudcats: this Low-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers starts their season on May 4 with six-game series against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. The Mudcats play at Five-County Stadium in Zebulon. Grab your tickets for opening night or any game from their 120-game schedule.
Coastal Plain League/Holly Springs Salamanders: Did you know that Holly Springs is the headquarters for the Coastal Plain League? The wood-bat collegiate summer league features nationally-recruited college players. Holly Springs’ team is the Salamanders, and their first home game is on May 30 against the Wilmington Sharks. The league has some pretty impressive alumni. Justin Verlander, Ryan Zimmerman, Kevin Youkilis, Chris Taylor and even Super Bowl MVP Russell Wilson have all spent time in the CPL, so you know you’re in for some great baseball. The ‘Manders, as they’re affectionately known, play at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs.
