Find a mask kids will want to wear from one of these Triangle retailers - and maybe one for you, too!

It’s becoming clear that wearing masks to protect ourselves is here to stay for a while. Getting kids on board with wearing them is easier when they’re cute and comfortable. Lots of Triangle brick-and-mortar stores and locally-based online retailers have masks in varying sizes and patterns. Here’s a list to start you off on your search for the perfect fit.

North Carolina’s executive order requires the use of face masks in public. Those with medical conditions and children younger than 11 are exempt, but parents who want to have some on hand can purchase a child’s face mask from one of these local retailers. *Please note that the CDC states children that are younger than 2 or unable to remove a mask without assistance should not wear one.

Easy Masks (online) This Apex-based online shop sources their fabrics and sewing from North Carolina. Product names like Apex, Eden and High Point are definitely an indicator of local flair. Masks are available for older kids and adults with choices for warm or cool weather conditions.

Edge of Urge (Raleigh) This boutique specializing in handmade and independent designer pieces has such unique offerings. The mask with the David Bowie print for adults is definitely in my own cart! Youth sizes are available and are ideal for the age 6-14 set.

Etsy.com (online) As you might expect, there are virtually endless options available to you from Etsy.com. Locally-based mask maker Gamergoodies4u has selections that will appeal to the inner geek in all of us. Customizable with elastic ear loops or four straps and choice of fabrics, these masks are truly individual. I may have a hard time choosing between the “Mischief Managed” and “Caticorn Returns” masks for adults.

Farmers Markets (Holly Springs, Midtown at North Hills and more) Local farmers markets are a great place to pick up a mask. Vendors are “peppered” among the fruit and vegetable sellers you typically expect to see at these community markets..

Grey & Co Boutique (online, mobile boutique) While you’re shopping for a wardrobe pick-me-up, grab one of the large selection of masks for kids and adults.

Learning Express Toys & Gifts (locations throughout Triangle) Lots of neat patterns–including animal faces–are available at this local favorite toy shop.

Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio (Durham, Fuquay-Varina, Raleigh) Masks of varying styles and sizes are available at area locations. Call before traveling to any location to make sure they’re stocked up.

Natty Neckware (online, Durham-based) Sizes available for kids aged 2-4 and 5-8 in with cloth and waterproof options.

OLIVE + LOU (online) Their “origami masks” with a filter pocket are available in three sizes to fit faces of ages 3 and up. The “Pink Squares” choice is extra cute.

Our Moments in Time (Holly Springs) Kid- and adult-sized masks sell very quickly at this fun shop in downtown Holly Springs. While you’re there mask shopping, pick up a “Moo Brew” (affogado) for you and a fruit smoothie for the kids to cool off in this heat.

Qwik Pack & Ship – Olde Raleigh Gift Shop (Raleigh) While you’re sending a birthday gift to grandma or making an Amazon return, pick up one of the kids’ masks at this one-stop shop in Raleigh.

Science Safari (Cary) This science- and nature-themed specialty toy store has a good selection that varies depending on the day. Curbside pickup is available.

Old Navy, Target (at retail locations and online) When all else fails, fall back on the big retailers to have something that will do the trick.
