Read, Write and Create With Summer Programs at Raleigh’s Newest Bookstore
Read With Me, a new children’s bookstore located in downtown Raleigh, is offering a full slate of summer programs, including workshops and camps that support kids’ development of skills in reading comprehension, writing and critical thinking.
Summer camps take place in the Creativity Corner of the bookstore and are built around themes that spur kids’ imagination. Sessions run in select weeks, Tuesdays through Fridays, at 1-2:30 p.m. for rising kindergarten- through second-graders and at 3-5 p.m. for rising third- through fifth-graders. The cost is $60 per week for kindergarten through second-grade workshops and $80 per week for third- through fifth-grade workshops. Preregistration is encouraged, as space is limited.
On Mondays in June, enjoy writing workshops with Blue Ink Press, with sessions for kids ages 8 and older (11 a.m.-noon) as well as adults (12:15-1:15 p.m.). Registration ($10 per person) is required. Contact the store for details on their upcoming cartooning workshops, kicking off July 10 and running for six weeks. The workshops will feature a local artist and cartoonist and are designed for kids ages 11-14. Students will learn the basic building blocks of drawing, character design and storytelling.
Regular storytimes are still being held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and at 11 a.m. on Saturdays. Don’t miss July’s “First Friday” author reading with artist/author Jessica Porta at 6 p.m. on July 7.
