Pick Your Thrills Aug. 7-10
Experience excitement and wonder all week long, with Wild Animal Encounters in Carrboro, the UniverSoul Circus in Raleigh, the intrigue of Ananse the Spider in Chapel Hill, and Looney Tunes critters and aliens with Michael Jordan in “Space Jam.”
Wild Animal Encounters’ Dan Breeding loves animals and has dedicated his work to educating the public about them, appearing on “Good Morning America,” “Live with Regis and Kelly,” “Animal Planet” and more. Dan brings his wild animal show — and a few surprises — to town 10:30-11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Carrboro Century Center. All ages. Admission is $3.

Gather friends and family of all ages for a high-flying Big Top adventure when UniverSoul Circus brings their show to Raleigh. Now in its 24th season, UniverSoul Circus boasts phenomenal acts, including dance sensations Fresh the Clownsss of Detroit and Caribbean Dynasty, below. Opening night is 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 9, with additional performances at various times through Sunday, Aug. 20, in the East Lot of PNC Arena in Raleigh. Tickets ($17-$35) are available online.

Rags to Riches Theatre for Young Audiences presents a lively performance featuring Ananse the Spider. Can he build a better web of stories to catch his unwitting prey? Two shows are slated, at 2-2:45 p.m. and at 4-4:45 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Chapel Hill Public Library. Recommended for ages 4 and older. Free.
Show your kids the (ahem) coolest movie special effects of your youth: the Michael Jordan-Looney Tunes collaboration, “Space Jam.” Presented by the Town of Chapel Hill and Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, the movie starts at 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 10, on top of the Wallace Parking Deck in downtown Chapel Hill. Free popcorn and fun activities. All ages.
