New Panthers Play 60 Challenge Course to Open in Southeast Raleigh
Build up a sweat at the new addition to Barwell Road Park
Although the Carolina Panthers’ stadium is over 2 hours away, Raleigh is about to get a taste of Panther pride. On Tuesday, July 13, at Barwell Road Park (5857 Barwell Park Drive, 27610) in southeast Raleigh, the new Panthers Play 60 Challenge Course and playground will make their debut. The ribbon-cutting ceremony happens at 9:30am, and you can be a part of the celebratory event. The event is free and all are welcome to attend. Simply RSVP by July 8 via email RSVP@raleighnc.gov or by phone 919-996-3285 to grab your spot.
This event couldn’t have happened without the collaboration of Raleigh Parks, Carolina Panthers, and GameTime. Last year, early construction on updating Barwell Road Park was underway. In August, the Panthers made a generous donation of $150,000 in honor of the Play 60 initiative towards the City of Raleigh. Under these new circumstances, Raleigh Parks made an addition to the Barwell Road Park plans, the Challenge Course. The 10+ piece obstacle course made by GameTime will be a highlight of the park dazzling in Panther blue.
Children and adults of all ages are welcome to test their speed, agility, balance, and coordination. Whereas teenagers and adults can utilize it to train, children can try it out for fun. The course will include a 40-yard dash, complete with two lanes and coupled with an electronic eye timer. Race your friends over and over for bragging rights. On second thought, leave some energy for the traverse wall, floating boards, and more. Not happy with your performance? As the Panthers say, “Keep pounding!” Too difficult? In addition to the Challenge Course, new swings, slides, kid-friendly platforms, and a multipurpose field are part of the new park design.
Playground is open 6am-Dusk Mon-Fri, and Dawn to Dusk Sat-Sun.
