During the week of Oct. 8 in the Triangle, learn about the life cycle of a pumpkin at Harris Lake County Park in New Hill, bake a flatbread pizza at the South Regional Library in Durham, make a masterpiece with acrylics at OWL Art Studio in Raleigh and enjoy nature-themed Halloween activities at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science in Raleigh.

Kids Discover Nature: Pumpkin Circle

Get ready for fall by learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin through George Levenson’s “Pumpkin Circle: The Story of a Garden.” The program is being led by staff at Harris Lake County Park in New Hill on Oct. 8, 11 a.m.-noon. Intended for ages 1-6, the fee is $4 per child and advance registration is required. Meet at the Cypress Shelter for the fun.

Flatbread Pizza Baking FREE

On Oct. 9, 4-5 p.m., ages 9 and older can learn how to make a delicious, easy flatbread pizza. This program is led by staff at the South Regional Library in Durham and preregistration is required.

Acrylic Pouring for Kids

At OWL Art Studio, your child can create a unique and beautiful masterpiece by pouring acrylic paint artfully onto canvas. Choose from a 12-by-12-inch canvas for $20 or an 11-by-14-inch canvas for $17. Preregister here for the class that takes place on Oct. 10, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Ages 4 and older with the help of a caregiver can complete this project. Please note that OWL Art Studio is located inside the Deja Vu Furniture Store.

Family Night: Natural History Halloween

This event is a chance for you and your family to explore the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science’s Nature Research Center after hours. Join staff for an evening of spooky, interactive science activities and live programming. Activities include Grossology in the Naturalist Center, animals of Halloween, and odd natural history objects. Nature-themed Halloween costumes are encouraged, but please review the guidelines before attending. The program runs 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 11, and tickets are available here for $3 per participant ($2 for members). Tickets are required for any attendee age 3 and older, although the suggested minimum age is 5. No tickets will be sold at the door, so you must purchase them in advance.
