Oct. 15-18: Kids Yoga, STEM Career Showcase, Nature Stories and What’s in the Box?
Fun things to do during the week with your kids
This week in the Triangle, get centered at a kids yoga program at the South Regional Library in Durham, get inspired at the STEM Career Showcase for Students with Disabilities at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, get ready for fall with a hike at Blue Jay Point County Park in Raleigh, and get in tune with art and artists at a program at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh.
Kids Yoga FREE
Everyone could benefit from some time to center themselves, including kids. On Oct. 15, 6-7 p.m., bring your school-aged child and the rest of the family to the South Regional Library in Durham to unwind with a licensed children’s yoga instructor. Preregistration is required because space is limited.
Many jobs available now and in the future center on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). On Oct.16 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., students with disabilities in grades 6-12 who are performing at or near grade level and are interested in a STEM career can meet role models with disabilities who have thriving STEM careers during the STEM Career Showcase at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Hear from a panel of role models; learn at the Opportunity Fair; and interact in breakout sessions with small groups or one-on-one conversations with panelists, the moderator and a keynote speaker. Registration is required.

Kids ages 2-5 and their caregivers will have fun while exploring art together at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh. Museum staff will introduce you to a work of art from the museum and lead you in activities that stretch your imagination. This session’s theme is places, so you’ll talk about the settings of paintings. Choose from sessions at 9:15, 10:15 or 11:15 a.m., all on Oct. 18. Preregistration is required and the cost is $8 per child ($6 for members). Caregivers are free. The activity takes place in the museum’s East Building on Level A.
