New Treatment for Head Lice

0 5 020

Oh no, not lice again! If this is the cry in your household, you may be happy to know that the medication Ivermectin, a treatment for roundworm, has been found to eradicate lice in almost three-quarters of children who coated their dry hair with the treatment for 10 minutes. This is the same level of effectiveness achieved by other lice treatments that require at least two applications.

Ivermectin was approved in 2012 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of lice. In a study of 765 children, the medication appeared to kill both lice and their larvae. It is marketed under the name Sklice. To learn more, visit nejm.org and search for Ivermectin.
