New High Ropes Course in Durham Offers Fun for All

Spotlight High Ropes

Test your strength and coordination at the new Discovery High Ropes Course at Bethesda Park in Durham, which opened June 8 and challenges participants to bond and experience different degrees of adrenaline.

Monthly High Ropes Discovery Days provide a reservation-free, drop-in opportunity to try the course. All other visits require group reservations. The next High Ropes Discovery Day is Saturday, Aug. 6, from 5-8 p.m.

Push your limits by exploring 25 separate elements within the course, which culminates in three “peak” experiences. The first one is the 55-foot-high Crow’s Nest offering a breathtaking, birds-eye view of the surrounding area before you finish your adventure. You can exit the course either through the second or third “peak” experiences – a giant swing and zip line – depending on how far you want to take your adventure.

The course is suitable for children ages 7 and older who are accompanied by an adult. Parents and guardians can support and nurture their kids’ abilities and strengths by tackling the challenges together.

The cost of the course varies from $7 for a Durham County resident with a Playmore Card to $10 for a non-county resident without a card.

Drop-ins for the Aug. 6 Discovery Day event are welcome, but pre-registration will ensure your spot. Group fees vary according to the number of people. The course is also available to the public groups for team-building exercises.

Trained and certified Durham Parks and Recreation staff members accompany participants. The staff is trained to ensure all proper precautions are taken and participants stay safe. Participants must complete a “ground school” to learn the proper terminology and safety procedures before attempting the course. For every six participants, one trained/certified DPR staff member must be present.
