A simulated crash was held May 13 at Chapel Hill High School.

Chapel Hill high school students learned about the dangers of distracted and impaired driving during a mock crash at Chapel Hill High School on May 13.

The event — simulated in real time and organized as part a collaborative effort by SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) chapters at East Chapel Hill High and Chapel Hill High, the Chapel Hill-Carborro City Schools system, and local emergency responders and agencies — provided students a chilling visual of dangerous driving situations. Emergency personnel simulated response and rescue operations, which included a UNC Medical Center Carolina Air Care helicopter transporting a critically injured victim to the hospital. Local police also demonstrated the arrest of the impaired/distracted driver who caused the simulated accident. Learn more at
