Get active for great causes at these six races in Raleigh, Cary, Clayton, Cary and Chapel Hill taking place May 2016.

1. Walk to End Lupus Now: Raleigh

May 1 – North Carolina State University, 851 Main Campus Dr., Raleigh. 1-5 p.m. See website for fees. Take steps against lupus. Funds raised support national research and local services to help people in the Triangle who are living with lupus. Register online.

2. Step on Sepsis Family 5K

May 7 –WakeMed Soccer Park, 201 Soccer Park Dr., Cary . 9-11 a.m. $30/person. Take part in a family-friendly 5K walk/run to bring awareness to the disease that took the life of a local man, Jerry Minore. Visit educational stations and speak with professionals about sepsis. The event concludes with a raffle for golf packages, Durham Bulls tickets and other prizes. Register online.

3. Clayton 5K Road Race

May 14 – The Clayton Center, 111 E. 2nd St., Clayton. 9 a.m. $5-$35. Take part in a 5K or .1-mile tot trot. Races begin at The Clayton Center and wind through the streets of downtown Clayton. Register online.

4. Purple Cloth 5K and Kid’s Dash

May 14 – Bond Park, 801 High House Rd., Cary. 8-10:30 a.m. $25. 919-412-6400. Take part in a 5K or kid’s dash to benefit Dorcas Ministries, which supports families in crisis. The kid’s dash for ages 10 and younger begins at 8 a.m.; the 5K begins at 8:15 a.m. Post-race food, music, face painting and a prize for the best purple outfit round out the fun. Take a canned food or clothing donation. Register online.

5. Color the Hill

May 21 –Finley Fields, 100 Old Mason Farm Rd., Chapel Hill. 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. $36 ages 11 and older, $16 ages 5-10, free for ages 4 and younger with a paying adult. 919-240-4776. Run, walk or dance through a 4K course to encounter five color stations that blitz nontoxic color on participants. Wear white attire. All ages and abilities welcome. The event also features food trucks and giveaways. Proceeds benefit three local nonprofit organizations. Register online.

6. Raleigh Promise Walk for Preeclampsia

May 21 – East Clayton Community Park, 1774 Glen Laurel Rd., Clayton. 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Free. Take part in a family-friendly 3K walk/run to benefit the Preeclampsia Foundation. Enjoy kids’ activities, a silent auction and raffles. Register online.
