Let Your Imagination Soar with Skippyjon Jones

Spot Skippyjon Jones

Go on a wild adventure with a spirited feline when TheatreworksUSA presents Skippyjon Jones, a live musical based on the popular book by Judy Schachner, Sunday, Feb. 26, at 3 p.m. in Stewart Theatre at North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

Skippyjon Jones is a little kitten with big ears and even bigger dreams. Sometimes he pretends to be a bird, a llama or a whale … anything but a Siamese cat. When Mama Junebug Jones sends him to his room so he can think about behaving like the cat he really is, Skippyjon’s imagination takes over again as he catches his reflection in a mirror.

Seeing that his ears are too big for his head and his head too big for his body, Skippyjon begins to believe that he is a chihuahua. Donning a mask, a cape and an accent, he transforms himself into Skippito Friskito, the greatest canine sword fighter in old Mexico. But when a local pack of chihuahuas is terrorized by the gigantic bee and bean-eating bandito Alfredo Buzzito, will Skippyjon be a fraidy-cat or the top dog?

The 60-minute musical features songs like “Be a Cat,” “Born to Fetch” and “Skippito’s Escape” that encourage theatergoers young and old to unleash their powerful imaginations and follow their dreams.

New York-based TheatreworksUSA is one of the country’s largest professional not-for-profit theaters for young and family audiences. Target is the national tour sponsor.

Stewart Theatre is at 2610 Cates Ave., Raleigh. General admission tickets are $11 and can be purchased by calling the box office at 919-515-1100 or online at www.ncsu.edu/arts.
