It’s Sneak Peek Week at Triangle Rowing Club

Kids ages 12-18 who are interested in Triangle Rowing Club can participate in free introductory sessions at Lake Wheeler Park, Tuesday, Feb. 21-Saturday, Feb. 25.

This week’s events include free introductory sessions with Triangle Rowing Club, plus a beloved children’s movie, cupcakes for teens, and African-American history and music. Don’t forget about the Great Backyard Bird Count, wrapping up Monday, Feb. 20!

“Charlotte’s Web” at The Cary Theater

Revisit the classic story with your child. The Cary Theater screens the 1973 animated musical, with the wise spider voiced by the late Debbie Reynolds, 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 21, 122 E. Chatham Street, Cary. Tickets are $1 and are available for purchase online or at the door.

Triangle Rowing Club’s Sneak Peek Week at Lake Wheeler Park FREE

Kids ages 12-18 interested in learning about rowing can get into boats and learn how to row this week with Triangle Rowing Club. Students and parents can also meet the club’s rowers and coaches. Novice and experienced rowers are welcome. Sessions run 3:30-6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 21-Friday, Feb. 24, and 7:30-10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, at Lake Wheeler Park in Raleigh. Cupcake Smackdown at Chapel Hill Public Library FREE

Area teens are invited to do some cupcake decorating (and eating!) in the Teen Room, 5-6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Chapel Hill Public Library. Free.

African-American History Festival at Durham’s Burton Elementary School FREE

Join a family-friendly exploration of African-American history, with a performance by Africa Unplugged, a group that combines traditional Malian music with modern American music such as jazz, rhythm and blues, hip-hop and rock. Also performing will be the Burton Elementary Choir, Instrument Club and Dance Ensemble. The event begins at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, at Burton Magnet Elementary School in Durham. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
