The News & Observer has reported that IKEA will not be building a store at Cary Town Center Mall, as we originally reported one year ago, in May 2017.

According to a Triangle Business Journal report, IKEA had confirmed plans to build a store at Cary Towne Center Mall last year at this time, with plans to open as early as summer 2020.

The 359,000-square-foot store would have covered 15 acres and encompass a two-level parking deck with 1,000 spaces, replacing the now vacated Macy's and Sears. The store was expected to employ about 300 people.

More updates will be posted here as they become available.
