In the middle of the Red Hat Amphitheater in downtown Raleigh sits a new temporary addition, an ice skating rink. Known as The Rink presented by UNC Health, this new holiday tradition (fingers crossed) is exploding with interest from Raleighites. Tickets are selling out quickly so after you read all about it, we suggest buying your tickets immediately.

Dates, Times, & Tickets:

The Rink opened on Nov. 20 and is continuing through Jan. 1. Starting Dec. 20 the hours are as follows:

  • Monday-Wednesday, 3-9pm
  • Thursday, 12-9pm
  • Friday-Saturday, 12-10pm
  • Sunday, 12-7pm
  • New Year’s Eve & New Years Day, 12-10pm

As of writing this article, there are a few days that are not totally sold out. Currently, Dec. 26-Jan. 1 are available for purchase. Tickets are $11 per skater (includes skate rental) and $6 per non-skater. In addition, children under 2 can enter for free. Taxes and fees may apply to your purchase. How to get tickets? There are actually four ways. First, you can order online here. Second, you can call 1-800-982-2787. Third, you can go in-person to the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts box office Monday-Friday from 10am-2pm. Lastly, you can buy your tickets at the ice skating rink if there are tickets still available.

Activities

It goes without saying that ice skating in a winter wonderland will be the main attraction. However, there are other holiday delights waiting for you and your family. After exhausting all the triple axels you can muster, try relaxing at one of the Cozy Stations complete with lounging furniture, heat warmers, and fire pits. Perhaps get in the spirit by gazing at the 20ft decorated Christmas tree or taking a holiday photo at the one of the Decoration Stations. Afterwards challenge your loved-ones to a game of giant Jenga or cornhole while sipping on hot cocoa and eating a snack from the snack bar or food truck.
