Supplies

Plastic Easter egg

Wiggle eyes

1½-inch-wide ribbon

Thumbtack

Sharpie

Pipe cleaners

Electric tea light candle

Scissors (wire edge works best)

Craft glue

Tweezers (optional)

  1. Use a thumbtack to push three holes in each side of the large portion of the plastic egg for pipe cleaner legs. Then use the tack to create two more holes on top of the small side of the egg for antennae. Finally, use the tack to make one hole in the top center of egg for wings.
  2. For legs, cut the pipe cleaner into six equal pieces about 3-3½ inches each. Insert them into the holes and use tweezers to pull from inside if necessary. Pull them through about ¼ inch and bend each inside to keep them in place. Bend the pipe cleaners to resemble legs.
  3. To make antennae, insert the 4-inch pipe cleaners into the two holes on top of the egg and bend them inside to keep them in place. Once inserted, wrap the pipe cleaner around a pen or your finger to curl the ends.
  4. For wings, cut a piece of ribbon about 12 inches and make a loop. Pinch the ribbon in the middle to form a bow tie, wrap it with a small piece of pipe cleaner and twist it tightly, leaving about ½ inch for the wing attachment. Insert the pipe cleaner piece into the wing hole and bend it inside to secure it.
  5. Use craft glue to attach the wiggle eyes and draw a smile with a Sharpie.
  6. Now your bug is ready to glow! Insert the electric tea light into the large portion of the egg with the bulb facing away from the head. Turn it on and snap the egg closed. Find a dark corner or head outside at dusk with your glow bug!
