Fun Things to Do in the Triangle This Weekend, July 7-9
This weekend’s outdoor fun includes family-friendly movies under the stars, a twilight nature walk, fort-building and a celebration of in-season tomatoes at the Carrboro Farmers’ Market. What’s not to love?
Enjoy “The Lego Movie” under the stars as part of the town’s “Free Friday Flicks” series. This screening takes place at 7 p.m., Friday, July 7, at the Century Center in Carrboro. Bring a blanket to sit on. Children under age 12 must have a parent or guardian present. Free.

Triangle families can step up their fitness this weekend during a ribbon cutting ceremony for the town's new Elevate Fitness Course Saturday, July 8, 9 a.m., at Apex Community Park, which is located at 2200 Laura Duncan Rd. in Apex. Inspired by the fast-growing trend of obstacle course fitness, the equipment is similar to that found on popular TV shows such as "American Ninja Warrior," "Spartan Races" and "Warrior Dash."
Celebrate all things tomato at the Carrboro Farmers’ Market. Enjoy live music from Gabriel Pelli and friends, including the sounds of a Kora, a traditional African instrument. Kids can enjoy tomato-themed activities and Crook’s Corner’s Tomato Lady, Betsy Elliott, will greet tasters as they come through the line. The market is open 7 a.m.-noon, Saturday, July 8, at the Carrboro Town Commons. This event takes place starting at 8:30 a.m. Free.

Take a walk with a park naturalist to explore the woods and fields at twilight, when many animals are active. Look for deer, coyotes and owls. This program takes place 8-9 p.m., Saturday, July 8, at Wilkerson Nature Preserve in Raleigh. All ages. Register ($2) online; choose course code #205496.

Enjoy the classic movie musical starring Julie Andrews as Maria, who becomes a governess for the seven children of a widowed naval captain and brings a new love of music into their home. The screening takes place 7:30-9:30 p.m., Saturday, July 8, at the Village Green at Southern Village in Chapel Hill. Admission is $5 per person. All movies are subject to change with weather-related events.
