Enjoy go-karts and more when Exchange Family Center hosts their “Pinwheels for Prevention” family day at Wheels Fun Park in Durham.

Whether you’re refining your home library with selections from Northgate Mall’s book swap, supporting organizations that work to prevent child abuse at their Wheels Fun Park fundraiser, enjoying big-band jazz, learning to fish or geeking out over “Star Wars” at the library, you’ll love what this weekend has to offer.

Celebrate “Star Wars” at Wake County Libraries FREE

May the Force be with you as Wake County Public Libraries celebrates “Star Wars” and reading! Enjoy a variety of “Star Wars”-themed events for school-aged kids and their families April 28-May 7. Regional libraries will screen “Star Wars: The New Yoda Chronicles,” and guests can enjoy crafts and games for Jedis and Stormtroopers of all ages during Star Wars Fest, planned for the weekends of April 28-30 and May 5-7. (Adults are invited to a Sci-Fi Drop-In Program in conjunction with these events.) Community libraries are hosting weekday Super Special Star Wars Celebrations with crafts, games, trivia and books featuring your favorite “Star Wars” stories, May 1-5. Kids in grades 6-10 can enjoy Teen Trivia: Star Wars Edition, 6-7 p.m.,Thursday, May 4, at North Regional Library in Raleigh. All events are free; no registration is required.

Special Needs Fishing Derby at Seagroves Park in Apex FREE

The Town of Apex is holding a Fishing Derby for people of all ages with disabilities. Rods, reels and bait are provided, with volunteers from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and Apex Boy Scout Troop 209 offering fishing tips and other assistance. Wheelchairs are welcome and no fishing experience is necessary. This event takes place rain or shine, 9-11 a.m., Saturday, April 29, at Seagroves Park Neighborhood Pond in Apex. Free, but online registration is required (course #5532).

Día de los Ninos and Book Swap at Northgate Mall FREE

Durham Public Library and Book Harvest are celebrating Día de los Ninos (Children’s Day) with a book swap and other kid-friendly activities. Bring in gently used infant, children’s and teen books, then swap them for other donated books, all for free. Decorate your book bag and enjoy live entertainment, Mad Science experiments and Scrap Exchange crafts. Stop by the Friends of the Library book sale, taking place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in suite 252 beside Sears, with a coupon from the Día event and receive a free book. The fun takes place 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, April 29, at the Children’s Alleyway (near Entrance 2) at Northgate Mall in Durham. Free.

Pinwheels for Prevention Family Fun Day at Wheels Fun Park in Durham

Join Exchange Family Center, a Durham nonprofit dedicated to supporting families and preventing child abuse, at Wheels Fun Park for a day of celebrating families. Activities include batting cages, mini-golf, a maze, roller skating and go-karts. This event, an annual fundraiser for EFC, takes place noon-6 p.m., Sunday, April 30, at Wheels Fun Park in Durham. Admission is $12 per person in advance, $15 at the door, or $10 each for parties of 5 or more.

Triangle Youth Jazz Concert at North Carolina Museum of History FREE

Award-winning Triangle-area high school musicians perform the best of classical big-band jazz during this special concert at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 30, at the North Carolina Museum of History in downtown Raleigh. The Triangle Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble will perform in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month. Free.
