Fun North Carolina Festivals Happening in May
The season is here, and we have six that you shouldn't miss
The weather is warming up, restrictions are loosening, and festival season is here. We searched from east to west to discover festivals that are scheduled to happen this May in NC. All festivals we picked are outside and are packed full of fun! Furthermore, most of them are free. Before jumping in your car and driving an hour or two, make sure to contact the event beforehand to ensure the festival is still on.
Saturday & Sunday, May 1-2
Annual Ramp Festival American Legion, 171 Legion Drive, Waynesville, 28786
This two day event starting on Saturday at 10am and going through Sunday till 6pm will celebrate the ramp, a type of wild onion that is native to this area. Known for its pungent aroma and bold flavor this vegetable gets center stage during this festival. Additionally, there will be live music, crafts, and clogging.
Jacksonville Jamboree Jacksonville Commons Recreation Complex, 100 Recreation Ln, Jacksonville, 28546
On the eastern side of the state is the Jacksonville Jamboree. Although this spring festival will only be half the day from 3-7pm, it will pack in a lot! The main stage will start immediately with #Epitome and round out the evening with The Little Known Legends. The kids will be entertained throughly with the train ride, pony rides, petting zoo, and crafts. Your four-legged friend will get a kick out of the event too when they enter the pet parade. All types of animals are welcome so get your bearded dragon looking its best.

BBQ Fest on the Neuse Downtown Kinston
Claiming to have the largest whole hog cook-off in the world, this fest will leave your mouth watering. Spanning two days, this event will fill every minute with music, shopping, dancing, arts & crafts, car shows, and of course BBQ. Friday kicks off at 5pm and goes to 10pm and Saturday is 10am-5pm.
Burger Fest Aw Shucks Farm, 3718 Plyler Mill Rd, Monroe, 28112
On May 8th, from 5-10pm attend a festival that honors the burger. During the burger competition, celebrity judges will score on most unique, fan favorite, and best overall. If all this burger talk is making you hungry you can stifle your cravings with What-A-Burger, Bae’s Burgers, and more. In addition to food there will be live music and arts & crafts. It’s $11 per person, ages 3 and under is free.
Saturday, May 15
SpringFest Town Hall Drive, Morrisville
From 2-6pm, the town of Morrisville will shut down Town Hall Drive and celebrate spring. Food trucks like Virgil’s Jamaica and Fatboy’s Kitchen will be dotting the street amongst other entertainment. Due to Covid-19, they are offering a new twist on the running race. Register for the virtual 5k or 7-mile race instead of the standard road race.

2nd Annual Downtown Asheville Memorial Day Weekend Festival of the Arts 80 Court Plaza, Asheville, 28801
This event guarantees two days of art-filled fun in downtown Asheville on Memorial Day weekend! The streets will be speckled with different art forms such as jewelry, paintings, glasswork, and sculpture. When you need a break, check out one of the many restaurants downtown and grab a bite to eat. This touring event is free and outdoors.
