Free Offers Let Parents Schedule in “Me” Time


If the January doldrums are settling in, you might be thinking of ways to schedule in some “you” time. For me, finding time to exercise or to do something just for myself—say browsing gardening shops in the dead of winter—always lifts my spirits. This week, I’ve found two Triangle venues are making it easy for you to tune in to your own needs with free offers.

Stroller Strides, a fitness program designed for moms and stroller-aged kids, is offering a free week of workouts, from Jan.23 through Jan. 28 around the Triangle. All workouts in Raleigh, Cary, Apex, and Chapel Hill will be free to new clients for the week. You’ll find details of the free week at

If you’re in Durham, check out the Museum of Life and Science’s Parent’s Morning Out, which operates every Tuesday morning through May 22, from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. for kids ages 3½–6. If you need to do something without your little one, say run an errand, here’s your chance. Drop him or her off to explore exhibits and take part in science activities while you run off unfettered to do what you need to do to recharge your batteries! Each month features a different theme, and January’s is chemistry. On Tuesday, Jan. 31, the museum if offering a free Parents Morning that will focus on exploring the Chemistry of Bubbles. You’ll need to call 919-220-5429 x313 to register for that free morning. The cost for a regular class is $25 for museum members and $30 for the general public.
