Finding the Fun in Exercise

Both Spotlight families in the Fit Family Challenge seem to be on track to make some great changes to both their eating and exercise habits. They are embracing the challenge with gusto! With family schedules already packed pretty full, it may seem hard to reshuffle things to fit in exercise, but they are doing a great job so far.

For both the parents and children, it is important to make sure they are choosing activities everyone enjoys. If they enjoy what they are doing, it will be easier for them to find the time. Each family is very willing to step out of its comfort zone to try new and different things. The Lucas family just started playing tennis, and they are going to try yoga at home to see how they like it. They are also starting family dance nights to get everyone moving in a different but enjoyable way. The Prater family is going to try some different classes to see what their family likes to do together, and they are also hiking and swimming to keep active. By trying new and diverse things, each family will be able to figure out activities that are fun to do and don’t seem like a chore. By making exercise a fun activity instead of something they dread, they will be more likely to keep doing it for the long haul.

If you are following along at home, think about some new activities that you and your family can try this week. Are there any classes you have been antsy to try? Do your kids love an activity, and you can give it a whirl? Follow the lead of the spotlight families and challenge your family to find new and exciting ways to exercise together. And remember to have fun while you are doing it!!
