Lights, arts, and family-friendly fun are back this year in the form of the Illuminate Art Walk. The Downtown Raleigh Alliance and Wake Tech are commissioning 15 pieces from local artists to transform public spaces and storefronts in Downtown Raleigh. The light-based installations are on display nightly from Friday, Dec. 3 to Friday, Jan. 7. The walking tour is self-guided and free.

After a close inspection of the map, one will find that the route is focused around Fayetteville Street, Wilmington Street, and Glenwood Avenue. This year there are three displays on Glenwood in contrast to the one from last year, thus making it more appetizing to make the trek from Fayetteville to Glenwood. Speaking of an appetite, perhaps stop along the way at one of many coffee shops along the path to get a hot chocolate. The following stops are possibilities, but make sure to check their hours: The Cupcake Shoppe, The Morning Times, Amorino Raleigh, and Sir Walter Coffee.

Art Displays

Let’s not forget the main reason to make a night out of it…the art! Expect large-scale, interactive, and of course light-based compositions. One highlight for this year is Chimes by Collectif Blackbox presented by Opendoor. Why all the fuss? This piece has traveled globally and is internationally recognized. Coupled with the fact that it will take over half of City Plaza, it’s a stop not to miss.  Below is a full list of all the art, stops, and locations.
