Amorino, a new Italian dessert and coffee shop, is set to open Tuesday, Nov. 22, in downtown Raleigh in the Moore Square District, and if you like gelato, you’ll find a choice of 24 flavors of this Italian treat. Plus, a percentage of whatever you buy at the shop Nov. 22-27 will be donated to InterAct, a local charity helping victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Started by two childhood friends in Italy, Amorino shops stretch from the U.S. to Europe, with offerings that range from its signature gelato rose cone to hot drinks, crepes, macaroons and more. If you opt for the cone, you can watch as the staff creates an edible gelato flower based on your selection of flavors, adding a macaroon of your choice on top. For those with allergies or diet restrictions, Amorino offers alternatives, including sorbets and egg-, gluten- or nut-free gelato options.

Crepe Chantilly Chocolat is one of the offerings at Amorino

Raleigh shop owner Vinty Judge was inspired by the gelato she tasted in Europe and wanted to bring it to the Triangle, her home of 20 years. A mother of two, she says she expects Amorino to be a “great place” for kids.

“The delicious gelato rose is very tempting and kids love the taste of our frozen delight,” she says. “They enjoy watching our gelatalia make the rose, adding petals to their cone right in front of them. Adding a macaroon on top of that brings a smile to their face every time.”

She says her store also welcomes pets onto its outdoor patio where patrons can sit under umbrellas. Indoors, the ambiance and authentic Italian décor are designed to transport visitors to Italy. Those who prefer hot drinks in the winter can choose from hot chocolate, coffee, cappuccino, tea and espresso and opt to sit by the fireplace.

“We are thrilled to be opening the first Amorino location in Raleigh and to be part of such a vibrant downtown community,” Judge says. “Additionally, supporting InterAct was just a small way to give back to those in need and share our excitement during the season of giving.”

The Raleigh shop, located at 137 E. Davie St., will be open noon to 10 p.m. Monday-Thursday and Sunday, and noon to 11 p.m. Friday.
