Family fun this weekend in the Triangle
This weekend in the Triangle, celebrate the season at a free activity at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, learn how the holidays were celebrated during the Civil War at Bennett Place State Historic Site in Durham, create fun arts and crafts at Super Fun Saturday in Apex and be a guest at a Polar Express Pajama Party at the Northeast Regional Library in Raleigh.
Celebrate the season ’60s-style at this beloved annual winter event hosted at the North Carolina Museum of Art. Create groovy floral art, jam to music and performances, and enjoy a visit from Santa. This year’s activities include hands-on art projects, story time and an interactive hoop jam with Imagine Circus. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Tickets are free, but preregistration is required. The fun happens Dec. 14, 5-8 p.m.

Two seasonal events take place Dec. 15, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.,, at Durham’s Bennett Place State Historic Site. Visit the site for free to see how Christmas was celebrated during the Civil War and enjoy a visit from St. Nick. Later, enjoy a candlelight tour, 6-9 p.m., around the farm and experience firsthand how soldiers and civilians experienced the holidays during a time of war. Tours will take place every 20 minutes and the fee for this activity is $3 per person ages 17 and older, $2 per child ages 5-16 and free for kids under age 5. Grab a cup of complimentary hot apple cider at either event and be sure to bring some cash for sweet treats available at a bake sale benefiting preservation of the site.

Super Fun Saturdays FREE
Join staff at the Halle Cultural Arts Center in Apex Dec. 15 for a free arts-and-crafts activity for children ages 4-12 and their caregivers. Stop in any time during the event, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., for creative exploration. No preregistration is required.

Elementary-aged kids and their families are invited to watch a showing of the perennial favorite holiday movie “Polar Express” Dec. 16, 2-3:40 p.m., at the Northeast Regional Library in Raleigh. Watch the movie on the big screen and enjoy movie-themed crafts and activities. Pajamas are encouraged and preregistration is required.
