There’s nothing quite like plunging into a cool pool or running through a cold spray as the summer sun beams down. This season, take the kids to enjoy public pools, lakes and water parks around the Triangle and beyond. Destinations are categorized by town.

Remember to always watch children in and around water and make sure they learn how to swim. See these tips for summer water safety.

RALEIGH

Admission for all City of Raleigh pools, except Buffaloe Road Aquatic Center, is $2 for residents and $3 for nonresidents ages 1-12; $4 for residents and $7 for nonresidents ages 13-54; $3 for residents and $5 for nonresidents ages 55 and older.

Monthly and annual passes are accepted at all facilities and are a cheaper option for families who plan to visit these pools throughout the summer. There is also a discounted punch pass good for 15 entries at all facilities. See Raleigh’s Pools & Aquatic Facilities web page for more information.

Buffaloe Road Aquatic Center

Offers a lazy river, water vortex, three-story waterslide, water volleyball and water basketball. A toddler-friendly area features water toys, a water curtain and a slide. Due to recent staffing shortages these attractions may be closed or the schedule may be adjusted.

DURHAM

Everyone who enters the pool must pay an admission fee, including people who are observing and not swimming. Admission for all City of Durham outdoor pools is free for city residents and $5 for non-city residents ages 0-18; $3 for city residents and $8 for non-city residents ages 19+; $2 for city residents and $7 for non-city residents ages 55 and older. Daily admissions can be paid by credit card or cash (bills larger than $10 are not accepted). Punch passes and monthly swim passes are available. Most spray grounds are free. Edison Johnson Spray Ground

The Edison Johnson Spray Ground is located in between the Edison Johnson Recreation Center and Aquatics Center within Rock Quarry Park. In addition to the spray ground, there is also a playground, picnic tables and a grill. There is a also a short trail that connects the spray ground to the large field and tennis courts within Rock Quarry Park.

The 6,000 square foot pentagon shaped pad features multiple jets of streaming water from more than 35 water features.

Admission: Residents can attend for free but must have a Resident Splash Pad card which can be picked up at the Community Center during regular business hour. Please bring proof of residency. A new card must be issued each year. *Residents who do not present a valid residency card will be subject to the non-resident fee schedule. There is a $2 fee per person for non-residents for all day admission. One parent will be admitted without charge. Children under the age of 2 are free of charge.
