Do you know of any high school students interested in ballet, classical music or William Shakespeare? Carolina Ballet is offering them a free deal. Through a pilot program just launched, all high school students, with a student ID, can gain free tickets to the professional ballet company's performances of "Beethoven: Symphony No. 9" in November, followed by the Shakespeare series later this winter and spring.

"I hope by making this offer that we will get more young people to attend the ballet," says artistic director Robert Weiss. "This seemed like a good time to try a program such as this with so many ballets being offered in the spring based on the plays of William Shakespeare."

This spring, Carolina Ballet will join in a worldwide celebration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death by offering four productions based on the Bard’s plays and sonnets. The performances will be downtown Raleigh at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in either Raleigh Memorial Auditorium or the A.J. Fletcher Theater.  Here’s a look at the schedule:

•        Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 / Petruschka – November 19-22, 2015, RMA

•        Loves Speaks – Feb. 4-21, 2016, AJF

•        Tempest Fantasy – March 3-20, 2016, AJF

•        Macbeth (world premiere) – April 14-17, 2016, RMA

•        George Balanchine's A Midsummer Night's Dream – May 12-15, 2015, RMA

Note that all tickets are based on availability for select performances at the discretion of Carolina Ballet. To reserve seats, students should call the Carolina Ballet Box Office at (919) 719-0900. Tickets will be held at the Will Call window at the theater, and students must show their student IDs to pick them up. Students can also get their tickets at the theater on the day of the show one hour before curtain.
