The Book Harvest hosts a free block party at Diamond View Park, located on the American Tobacco Campus, on July 17 ( 1 p.m.-4 p.m.). The downtown Durham event marks the nonprofit’s 10th birthday,. with food trucks, performances from Pierce Freelon and daughter Stella, and much more.

Every kid (infant to high school-aged) gets a free bag with a copy of the book The Word Collector by Peter H. Reynolds. The first 800 attendees also get a free LocoPop, the hand-crafted, Mexican-style frozen pops made by a local company. “Bags of culturally inclusive, age-appropriate books will also be available for everyone to take home and keep forever,” a release adds.
