ATT Bridge Wins National Award

Community Amer Tob Bridge

Durham’s American Tobacco Trail Pedestrian Bridge recently won a National Recognition Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies as part of its 2015 Engineering Excellence Awards competition. The pedestrian bridge, which opened in February 2014, is a self-anchored structure that combines a concrete stressed ribbon deck with steel arch ribs. It spans 210 feet between arch supports and has an overall deck length of 268 feet. The bridge is the centerpiece of the final 4-mile segment of the American Tobacco Trail, connecting two sections of a 22-mile rails-to-trails project. The bridge provides safe bike and pedestrian passage over U.S. Interstate 40 near The Streets at Southpoint mall. Learn more at durhamnc.gov.
