A world of opportunities await your child at Dillard Drive Magnet Middle School
Teachers here create dynamic opportunities that connect students to current events, global topics, and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
There is a new magnet middle school in the Wake County Public School System, with a theme focused on global studies and world languages. Dillard Drive Magnet Middle School (DDMMS) is now offering French and Spanish—with the option of earning up to 2 high school language credits—and integrating global themes within all classes. Teachers here create dynamic opportunities that connect students to current events, global topics, and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
DDMMS parent, Bryce Norton, says the “amazing staff uses the UNSDGs in each lesson to show students how what they are learning can be applied to their world outside of school. This makes the learning real for the kids.” Ms. McElreath, an 8th grade English Language Arts teacher says the new theme “allows me to weave so many compelling global issues into the curriculum. Our journey has taken us to far corners of the world, challenging students to think deeply about how the UNSDGs can translate into measurable actions.”
Language learning is an integral part of the global experience at Dillard Drive Magnet Middle. French teacher Lisa Bartels says, “every student benefits from the academic stamina required for learning a language. Language study teaches communication strategies and perseverance, and challenges us to look at our own language and culture through new eyes.”
The enthusiasm for the new magnet theme is contagious! Parent Tisha Shah says, “My children come home excited to share how they are learning about different cultures and countries in each of their classes and they even have the opportunity to extend this learning into clubs like Model United Nations, International Club, and Latin Dance/Swing!”
That excitement for learning is what Dillard Drive Magnet Middle is all about.
