This weekend, the Triangle offers an eclectic range of family fun, whether your kids are fans of dinosaurs and fossils, trucks, theater, art or that jolly ‘ole elf, Santa. You can also enjoy shopping holiday craft fairs, soak in live jazz for free and savor food truck fare.

1. Head out to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh for PaleoPalooza, a popular paleontology event formerly called "Fossil Fair," 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14. Go for dozens of displays, activities and presentations by paleontologists from North Carolina and around the world. Take your fossils for identification by experts with the Smithsonian Institution, and go on behind-the-scenes tours of the Museum’s Paleontology Research Lab every hour, on the hour, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., to learn excavation techniques.

You’ll also find live music and food trucks. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 per child and proceeds benefit Bright Horizons’ nonprofit Foundation for Children.

3. Catch a live performance with your family. See “The Glass Menagerie” in Durham, “A Year with Frog and Toad” in Raleigh, VeggieTales Live: “Little Kids Do Big Things Tour” in Raleigh and "The Music Man" in Raleigh. Learn more in our roundup of November performances
