The Great Pumpkin Smash invites all to bid goodbye to pumpkins left over from Halloween.

Say farewell to old pumpkins and jack-o’-lanterns from Halloween at the Great Pumpkin Smash, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at Three Bears Acres in Creedmoor. Catapult pumpkins into a pond, squish them under the wheels of a tractor and watch as they whiz down a zip line into a tree. Taste pumpkin foods, take a hayride, jump on a giant pillow and more. Neuse River Valley Model Train Show / Nov. 5-6
See multiple train layouts in six scales, a full-size model of Thomas the Tank Engine, a LEGO train layout and much more at the 32nd Annual Model Train and Railroad Show, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, in the Jim Graham Building at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. The event, sponsored by the Neuse River Valley Model Railway Club, also features model train vendors and repair professionals. “The Secret World Inside You” / Through March 12
Explore the microscopic life that lives in and on the human body in a new exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh. Through videos, larger-than-life models and interactive games, learn how this community of bacteria, fungi and other organisms changes as a person grows and is exposed to new environments, foods and different medications.
