2013 Favorite Camps and Places to Learn
Parents know best when it comes to family-friendly places to eat, shop, celebrate and visit in the Triangle, so we asked you to name your favorites. In some cases, top vote-getters were extremely close, so we awarded two. Businesses or places that received an overwhelming number of votes are recognized as Honorable Mentions.

Lee Brothers Tae Kwon Do
Famous throughout the Tae Kwon Do world, the Lee Brothers came from Korea to share their knowledge of this art with American students. The brothers hold their own martial arts competitions and have played a major role in increasing North Carolinian interest in Tae Kwon Do. They also offer fitness kickboxing and self-defense classes. White Tiger Martial Arts
Master Rondy lived in Korea as the only Caucasian member of the Korean Tigers Professional Demonstration Team, earning her the nickname from her fans as “The White Tiger.” She created her own curriculum and student handbook, which was endorsed by the Kukkiwon, the governing body of Tae Kwon Do worldwide. Cary Ballet Conservatory
The Conservatory has four spacious studios with the largest one being more than 3,000 square feet. Faculty members at Cary Ballet Conservatory have performed with the New York City Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Walt Disney World Entertainment and other renowned companies; located at 3791 N.W. Kindermusik was founded in the U.S. in 1978 and was rooted in the work of musicians and educators Shinichi Suzuki, Maria Montessori and Carl Orff. Kindermusik’s curriculum is proven to improve child brain development. Located throughout the Triangle; kindermusik.com.
Bull City Gymnastics
Bull City Gymnastics offers classes for children ages 12 months and up. From Parent and Tot classes to tumbling and trampoline classes, children of all ages and abilities can be accommodated. Located at 4502 Bennett Memorial Rd., Durham; bullcitygymnastics.com.
Superior Gymnastics holds classes for competitive as well as recreational gymnastics, and also has a dance studio for beginners or those interested in competitive dance. Located at 220 Dominion Dr., Morrisville; asuperiorgym.com.
Sylvan Learning Center
Sylvan Learning Center provides tutoring in specific school subjects as well as test prep for the SAT, ACT, college prep and courses in the development of study skills. Create and Bounce Day camp allows campers to get their creative juices flowing with exercise and then set their imaginations free during time dedicated to making art. Chestnut Ridge Camp and Retreat Center
Situated on more than 300 acres of land, Chestnut Ridge Camp and Retreat Center is a Christian ministry founded by the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Camp Kanata, Camp Seafarer and Camp Seagull bring children from around the state, nation and even world together to relate to each other and to learn and play together. Y Campers participate in character development while playing hard and having new experiences. Camp Kanata is just outside of Wake Forest and features a lake in which campers can swim in, boat on, slide into and climb the giant inflatable Iceberg that floats in the lake. Camp Seagull for boys and its sister camp Camp Seafarer are located on the N.C. coast, which lets campers learn how to sail, in addition to traditional camp activities.
