School libraries don't ususally bring controversy to mind, but two books have rocked the otherwise peaceable world of children's literature in the past few months. There was And Tango Makes Three, which made national headlines when a Charlotte superintendent attempted to ban the book last December. At the center of the maelstrom was the relationship between two male penguins. More recently, Newbery Medal-winner Susan Patron, author of the children's book The Higher Power of Lucky , found her book at the center of dispute when critics protested a word not often heard in polite conversation. Find out what school librarians think about the book. Have something to say about the controversy? Let us know what you think.
