Wake Magnet School Fair Offers New Choices
Written by: Odile Fredericks
If you're considering public school options for your kids in Wake County, you'll want to attend Wake County Public School System's Magnet Schools Fair on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School.
Families often choose magnet schools because they focus on particular areas of education or themes. In Wake County, for example, magnet schools offer these themes: Gifted and Talented programs, engineering education, International Baccalaureate, Leadership, World Languages, Creative Arts and Early Colleges. At the fair, parents and students can talk with staff from the schools to learn more about the specialized areas they offer and learn how to apply.
For the 2013-14 school year, families in Wake County can apply to three new magnet schools: Fox Road Elementary, Green Elementary and Carroll Middle schools. The district will also be changing magnet themes at Poe Elementary and Moore Square Middle schools.
Fox Road will offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. Green will offer a Leadership and World Languages theme. Carroll will offer a Leadership and Technology theme. Poe and Moore Square will offer the Gifted and Talented/ Academically Gifted (AG) Basics program.
