Raleigh City Museum Presents 'Giving Thanks' Nov. 21
Publish On 10-29-2009 , 10:33
The Raleigh City Museum is offering kids a chance to celebrate Thanksgiving early on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m!
Thanksgiving has been an official holiday in Raleigh since 1849, and at this event, children will get a chance to learn about its history in Raleigh along with other fall traditions. Kids will complete a museum scavenger hunt, receive a silver acorn upon completion, paint their own thanksgiving art from scratch or from pre-made designs, decorate a holiday postcard, and families can check out our reading corner featuring Thanksgiving books. Please note this "Second Saturday" program will fall on the third Saturday of the month in conjunction with the downtown Christmas parade. Admission to this program is free.
Second Saturday is a new children’s program offering at the Raleigh City Museum usually occurring the second weekend of every month. Each month will cover a new theme and aspect of Raleigh history. Kids will enjoy craft stations, reading corners, and the overall museum experience as they learn about our Capital city.
The Raleigh City Museum is located in the Historic Briggs Building at 220 Fayetteville Street. The museum is open Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 1 p.m. to 4p.m. Admission to the museum and most programs is free. The permanent exhibits are It Started With One Thousand Acres: Raleigh and its People, Raleigh’s City Flag: 100 Years, and Let Us March On: Raleigh’s Journey Towards Civil Rights.
