Spring festival March 7 to help kids

Publish On 03-05-2009 , 11:14

Team Mer Mer, a volunteer initiative that raises awareness and funds for the research and treatment of pediatric brain tumors, will participate in Garden Supply Center's annual Spring Festival, to be held on Saturday, March 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 1421 Old Apex Rd., in Cary.

Team Mer Mer honors the memory of Meredith Elisabeth Edwards, a 14-month-old Raleigh girl who died April 14, 2008, from medulloblastoma, a malignant, highly invasive brain tumor. "Mer Mer" fought a courageous but brief two-and-a-half-month battle that included two brain surgeries and two rounds
of chemotherapy. Her mother, Beth Edwards, is a former full-time and current substitute teacher with Exploris Middle School.

Garden Supply Company is a full service garden center that has served the Cary, Apex, and surrounding communities since 1996. It specializes in providing customers with healthy, hearty plants that thrive in the challenging Piedmont North Carolina weather.

The Festival serves as Garden Supply's premier kick-off event for Spring and features discounted pricing on its vast selection of flowers, plants, garden statuary, and other landscape accessories. In addition to live entertainment, an art showcase from Cary Gallery of Artists, food, and fun activities for kids, representatives from vendors such as imustgarden, Wyatt-Quarles, Black Kow, and RiverBend Nursery will be on hand to provide one-on-one advice to customers about gardening and landscape challenges.

Volunteers from Team Mer Mer will run the Festival's food pavilion, which will provide free hot dogs, chips, and drinks to everyone in attendance. Assorted baked goods will be available for purchase, with 100% of proceeds benefiting The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke Medical Center.
