Celebrate the holiday season with your family at newly renovated Pullen Park in Raleigh. The park's Holiday Express opens Dec. 8-11 from 4-9 p.m. and offers a weekend of festive activities appropriate for all ages. Enjoy holiday lights and displays, ride a lighted train or carousel and visit with Santa.

After two years of being closed for renovations, the park reopened in November and is once again providing amusement, open space and special events for Triangle-area residents and visitors. The 66-acre park now offers a spiffed up carousel house that can be used for most of the year, one of the main goals of the restoration project. Improvements also include a new entrance, playground and picnic shelters.

The entire park, renovations and all, will be lit up with decorative holiday lights for the Holiday Express. Families can ride the train and view displays of animated lights.

"In past years, the animated train ride has been everyone's favorite," says Richard Costello, director of lakes and amusements at Raleigh Parks and Recreation. "And, of course, Santa is always a hit."

Entertainment will also include holiday music and arts and crafts stations. Food will be available for purchase at the Pullen Park Cafe. Once the entry fee is paid, everything inside is free, except for refreshments.

Pullen Park is located at 520 Ashe Ave. in Raleigh. You can purchase advance tickets for the Holiday Express online through Dec. 6 at http://reclink.raleighnc.gov  for $7 per person. You can also purchase tickets at Pullen Park the day of the event for $10 per person. Children under 2 are admitted free with a paying adult.
