My favorite summer memories always revolve around family. From my very earliest memories I see myself, my brother and my sister stretched out in the back of my dad's station wagon on top of a mattress at 3 a.m. in the morning as we head to Ocean City, Md. from our home in Carlisle, Penn. Yes, no seatbelts. We were always giddy with excitement so it was hard to go to bed and then even harder to wake up so early in the morning. We would caravan with my aunt, uncle and cousins and stop at the Gap Diner in Wind Gap, Penn. for an early breakfast before continuing on our camping vacation. Most times we just slept while the adults had coffee.
Funny memories are of my brother roasting so many hot dogs that he woke up in the middle of the night having dreamt that he was taking off to the heavens on a hot dog. We all slept in a tent camper and we would laugh and snicker when we heard my parents snoring. Sometimes together and sometimes to a little rhythm. That would drive me crazy now!
Whatever we did, fishing, crabbing, swimming, cooking, or playing horseshoe or cards, my family memories are cherished and I now have the privilege of making lasting memories for my children and grandchildren.
