Local Teen Walks for Lupus to Help Raise $3,845
Date: June 1, 2012
Cyndi Horner, a Wake Forest 19-year-old diagnosed with lupus in her early teens, joined Team Cyn-a-buns to raise $3,845 — doubling their goal — in support of lupus research during the Fourth Annual Walk for Lupus Now Raleigh, which took place April 22 at N.C. State University's Centennial Campus.
Cyndi's diagnosis came just as she was developing a passion for running marathons. After several misdiagnoses, Cyndi learned she had Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, a chronic autoimmune disease that can be destructive to any major organ or tissue in the body.
More than 1,400 walkers participated in the annual walk to raise more than $105,000 for The Lupus Foundation of America's Piedmont Chapter, which serves 45,000 patients in North Carolina. Learn more at lupus.org.
