Magic Wings Butterfly Festival
Learn about the residents of the Magic Wings Butterfly House, a walk-through rainforest with lush tropical vegetation and 1,000 butterflies, at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham May 5, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The Magic Wings Butterfly Festival includes insect racing, bug eating, crafts, hands-on activities and more. See exotic butterfly species, learn about the metamorphosis cycle and enjoy more than 250 species of plants. Free with regular museum admission. Artsplosure in Raleigh
Explore visual and performing arts May 19-20 at Artsplosure 2012, the annual Raleigh arts festival featuring live music, an art market, food and visual artworks. A special Kidsplosure area offers fun opportunities for children and families, including interactive art activities and performances for younger audiences. The festival is at Moore Square, 200 S. BrickMagic LEGO Festival
The third annual BrickMagic LEGO Festival will entertain LEGO fans of all ages May 19-20. Help certified professional LEGO builder Dan Parker build a 6-foot-wide LEGO Deathstar. Explore a huge hall of custom creations and make your own in a Free Build Room. Also see brand-new LEGO sets. The festival is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the Hilton North Raleigh, 3415 Wake Forest Rd., Raleigh. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for seniors or children ages 4-16.
