Remember that great photo you captured of your child splashing into the surf at the beach last summer? Or how about the long weekend in the mountains, where you photographed your kids learning to fish? Remember their faces when they baited the hook?

Those are good memories, captured forever, revisited often. Family trips make some great stories that are told and retold for years.

This summer, those fun family photos from vacations could also win you some amazing prizes in the Carolina Family Travel Guide Family Photo Contest, sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources.

Carolina Parent wants to see your Carolina vacation photos from June and July this year. Share your favorite summer vacation photo with our web site visitors in our family travel photo contest and encourage your family and friends to vote for your picture.

It's easy to upload your pictures into our website. Once your photo is posted, you, your family and your friends can all vote for it as the best family travel photo in the contest. You can vote once a day, every day for the duration of the contest.

Photos can be posted June 1-July 31. Voting ends Aug. 5.

So what's the grand prize?

Courtesy of the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources and its partners, Carolina Parent readers are eligible to win a seaside adventure for a family of four in Beaufort.

Winners will step inside the North Carolina Maritime Museum for a guided tour and a special look at Blackbeard's Queen Anne's Revenge exhibit, then climb to the top of the Museum's Widow's Walk to see where the notorious pirate ran his flagship aground just two miles away.

The prize package also includes a pirate's-eye view of the Crystal Coast on a one to two-hour guided sailing excursion with the Museum and an introduction to diving session for adults and children 12 and older.

Back on land, the winning family will be able to walk along Beaufort's waterfront where they might catch a glimpse of dolphins in Taylors Creek and wild horses just across the water on Carrot Island. Dinner at Old Salt is included, as is a complimentary stay at Beaufort Harbor Suites.

There are also additional prizes for select other entries:

  • A Graveyard of the Atlantic T-shirt, from NC Maritime Museums
  • A family membership to the NC Art Museum, from the NC Art Museum
  • Guide to North Carolina Highway Historical Markers, donated by the NC Office of Archives and History, Historical Publications
  • The Old North State Fact Book, donated by the NC Office of Archives and History, Historical Publications
  • And great books for kids, donated by the State Library of North Carolina

So dig out your camera and make some photos of your family having fun on vacation. We can't wait to see what you're doing this summer!
