Family Fun Days, a special summer series featuring a day-long activities, returns to Hillsborough on Saturday, July 14. Held on second Saturdays, the event offers guided tours, children's activities, artisan demonstrations, a farmers market, shopping, and dining through September.
On Saturday, July 14, head to the Orange County Main Library, located at 137 W. Margaret Lane, to pick up your Passport to Historic Hillsborough. Historic Hillsborough passports will only be available on Family Fun Days. The Passport to Historic Hillsborough is designed for kids and is created so that families can learn more about their community. Inside the passport you will find names of places to visit in town. See how many places you can go and how many stamps you can collect!
Begin your day at the Orange County Main Library. Children can pick up their passports and participate in a summer craft from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Be sure to sign up for the library's summer reading program. Those who sign up will receive a special bag which includes a reading record, stickers, bookmark, and a list of activities happening at the library over the summer. Return later in the afternoon at 2 p.m. for a summer movie.
Next move on to the Alexander Dickson House/Orange County Visitors Center, located at 150 E. King St., where you can learn all about Hillsborough and get your passport stamped. Children can complete a scavenger hunt that takes them around the town and return their results for a prize.
Historic sites and attractions will also host special programs on Family Fun Day. The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough will have its Second Saturday tours at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The 90-minute walking tour, designed for adults and teens, begins at the Orange County Visitors Center. The tour will pass by many of Hillsborough's historic homes, churches, and cemeteries, while also going inside a few of the restored buildings. Tours cost $5 per person. Kids 15 and under are free.
Story time will be held from 11:00-11:20 a.m. at Purple Crow Books, located at 109 W. King St. Stop in and listen to a story, get your unique stamp and browse the selection.
Stop by the Orange County Historical Museum for the Let's Eat! Scavenger Hunt. The museum is located at 201 N. Churton St. and the activity is free. Remember to get your Passport stamped during your visit.
Walk a little further up Churton Street and pay a visit to the Burwell School Historic Site, 319 N. Churton St. Get a special Passport sticker for taking a tour of the historic school.
After a lesson in Hillsborough's history, stop by the SportsPlex, 101 Meadowlands Dr., and take a dip in the pool or skate around the ice rink. Take your stamped passport in and you will receive buy one get one free admission to swim or skate. This offer is also good for Sunday with your stamped Passport.
Family Fun Day participants are also welcome to visit the Family Fun Gym at Orange County Gymnastics. Take part in the fun for free from noon-5 p.m. with your passport.
