Dance stirs both the imagination and the soul at The American Dance Festival, which is underway through July 28 in Durham. The festival features three hour-long performances in its Children's Saturday Matinee Series.

Shows include the imaginative Pilobolus July 7, modern dance masters Paul Taylor Dance Company July 21 and the Mark Morris Dance Group July 28, accompanied by live musicians. Performances are at 1 p.m. at the Durham Performing Arts Center, 123 Vivian St., Durham. A special kids' party with music, snacks and additional entertainment immediately follows each of the matinees on DPAC's outdoor plaza. Tickets range from $18-$51 and can be purchased online at american dancefestival.org. Visit the website for a complete schedule of events.
