Backup child care, time off for volunteering at school, on-site fitness programs, meals to go. These are just a few of the employee options offered by companies in North Carolina. Even during a challenging economic climate, employers continue to provide creative programs and top-dollar benefits to help employees be productive and effective workers while also having flexibility, resources and support to enjoy and make the most of life with their families.

View the Benefits of N.C. Family-Friendly 50 Companies
As employers in North Carolina increase their commitment to helping employees balance work and family life, Carolina Parenting Inc. also thought it was time to increase the number of companies we recognized as family-friendly. Now in its 11th year, our annual list includes 50 companies instead of the previous 40. From standard health benefits and programs to flexible work options, these businesses go the extra mile to make managing family and work responsibilities easier. View the specific benefits and programs offered by N.C. Family-Friendly 50 companies, as reported by the companies in response to our questions.
The application process for the N.C. Family-Friendly 50 begins with a simple nomination form. Companies nominated by the April 2009 deadline were contacted by Carolina Parenting to gather specific information about benefits, workplace culture and innovative programs. Companies could also have employees to submit testimonials. (The location on the chart identifies the city where the nomination originated.)
All of the application packages were reviewed by Holly Rice and Christine Ferrell of UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School’s MBA for Executives Programs. They selected the final list of companies to be recognized.
