Tours: Women’s
Birth & Wellness
Center
welcomes you to attend an informational tour led by one of our midwives. Don’t miss
considering the option of a free-standing birth center for your maternity care. Bring your questions; see the clinic and our on-site
birthing center. Tours are available every other Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. Please call to register.
Amenities: Consider an alternative to hospital birth. Women’s
Birth & Wellness
Center
is more than a place it is an attitude,
a way of looking at birth as a natural, normal, healthy and uniquely personal event in the life of a family. Each woman is given
time for quality care, with dignity and respect. Client’s preferences and needs are considered; active participation in care and
decision-making is encouraged.
Our birthing facility is warm and home-like, where safe and nurturing care is given without unnecessary medical intervention.
There are three fully equipped private rooms with quilted double beds and extra-deep tubs for laboring or water births,
if desired. Families are welcomed at the birth or nearby in our cozy family area with couches and cooking facilities. Babies are
born in this quiet, gentle environment. Mothers are not separated from their babies and families, and most return home six hours
after giving birth.
Each family is visited at home a few days after the birth by a nurse or midwife, and mom and baby receive follow-up care there. Subsequent two- and six-week visits are scheduled in the clinic.
Certified Nurse Midwives at Women’s
Birth & Wellness
Center
are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They have
practice privileges at
UNC
Hospital
and, if it becomes necessary to transfer a patient to the hospital, one of our midwives will
accompany her. The midwife will either deliver her at the hospital or support her through other necessary procedures.
Additional Comments: Women's Birth & Wellness Center is the only free-standing birth center in the Triangle. We are
accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers. Insurance and Medicaid are accepted.
