Weekend fun across the Triangle includes free outdoor concerts, free movies, free kids story times, free festivals and a free fishing event for kids. Plus, enjoy free First Friday fun and kids nature programs.

FRIDAY

Head to The Carolina Inn, in Chapel Hill to hear a Fridays on the Front Porch from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Relax outdoors with the family listening to live music for free. Also in Chapel Hill, the N.C. Symphony will perform "An Outdoor Overture" at 7:30 p.m. at Market Square at Southern Village. The free concert will feature music for a variety of tastes, including classical, American and more. See our Daily Calendar for details.

Visit the American Tobacco Historic District, in Durham at 9 p.m. Friday catch a free movie, Under African Skies, with singer Paul Simon. The movie is appropriate for all ages for all ages. See our Daily Calendar for details. Find more Triangle Summer Movie Deals here. 

It's First Friday in downtown Raleigh, a monthly art celebration when museums, galleries and other venues stay open late for those who want to browse, play, shop and eat. At the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences catch the free classic movie,  "Wizard of Oz," at 7p.m.

The American Girl Club will meet Barnes & Noble in Cary at 7 p.m. Friday in Cary, and kids will hear the story, The Hidden Gold: A Marie-Grace Mystery. The event is free. See our Daily Calendar for details.

SATURDAY

Head to downtown Fuquay-Varina for a Celebration of the Arts, a free family-friendly festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Enjoy live entertainment, activities for children and youth, classic cars, food and an arts-and-crafts show.

On Saturday in Cary, Fred G. Bond Metro Park's field #4 will welcome Dog Days of June, an annual festival focuses on the health, happiness and fitness of your four-legged friend From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., leashed dogs and their owners can shop pet-related vendors and pet adoption/rescue groups, and try out AKC's "My Dog Can Do That" agility equipment. At 9:30 a.m., teams of owners and dogs can register for the 10 a.m. Canine Frisbee Disc Competition, a qualifier for the World Canine Frisbee Disc Championships; all dogs, regardless of linage or experience, are invited to participate. Following the competition, members of the Cary Teen Council will offer a dog wash and dry. Prices range from $5 for small dogs (up to 15 lbs.) to $10 for large dogs (36+ lbs.); owners are encouraged to bring their own towel. . In Durham, from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, the Swift Creek: Streets at SouthPoint concert offers free admission, as part of the Music on Main concert series. Got a little nature nut? Join bird enthusiast Vernon for an easy walk while looking and listening for feathered friends, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Lake Crabtree County Park, in Morrisville. Meet at the Waterwise Garden for this free event, Birding with Vernon, when you'll learn about birds and their habitats.

Free Saturday fun includes events at Triangle-area farmers markets!  In downtown Hillsborough on Saturday, the Eno River Farmers Market will run from 8 a.m. to noon and will feature free make-and-take crafts for kids. In Cary, the Western Wake Farmers Market will run from 8 am. to noon offering live music, the produce of more than 30 farmers and artisans, and a free special program in the Education Tent. Saturdays are a great time for engaging little ones in reading through free story times and you'll find a lot of them this weekend. See our Daily Calendar for details on these events:
* In Apex, German Story time runs from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the Eva Perry Library, featuring a story, songs and a craft in German.
* In Durham, Duke Gardens' Doris Duke Center offers Nature Storytime, a free event for ages 3 to7 with parent, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Enjoy a story in the gardens, then discuss the garden connection. It's part of the drop-in book club and no registration is required.
* Also in Durham at 11 a.m., visit the Barnes & Noble for free Preschool Storytime.
* In Chapel Hill, Flyleaf Books' Saturday Morning Story time will run from 10:30 to 11 a.m. The free event will also feature an activity.
* Also in Chapel Hill, Orange County Public Library's Carrboro Branch will host a story time starting at 10:30 a.m.

Did you love to fish as child? Catch a fun free fishing event for your children ages 3 to 15, on Saturday when the annual Youth Fishing Rodeo lands at Bob Strayhorn's Farm, in Chapel Hill. Designed to expose children to the joys of fishing, the rodeo runs from 9:15 a.m. to noon, with registration beginning at 9:15 a.m. Fishing will begin at 9:30, followed by a free hot dog lunch and awards ceremony at 11:15 a.m. Get more details, including prizes awarded for various categories, in Youth Fishing Rodeo Offers Kids Free Fishing Fun.

In Raleigh, the N.C. Museum of Art's free Storytelling in the Galleries program will kick off at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday offering family-friendly tours and activities in the galleries. See our Daily Calendar for details.

SUNDAY

The Gravy Boys will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at E. Carroll Joyner Park, in Wake Forest. Hear folk, honky tonk and roots rock music at this free concert.

ALL WEEKEND

In Raleigh, on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m., enjoy five short plays written by area middle and high school students come to life at Burning Coal Theatre Company.
