Wake County Elementary Schools Plan Kindergarten Registration Events
Got a child going into kindergarten in Wake County? Many Wake County elementary schools are hosting special events on Thursday, Feb. 2, for parents to register and enroll their child for kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year as well as tour the schools. You'll find the schedule of school events here.
Your child is eligible to enter kindergarten if he or she is 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 of the current school year. Gifted children who are age 4 by April 16 also will be considered for admission, according to state law.
This year, registration and enrollment for kindergarteners is earlier than usual as the Wake County Public School System works to prepare families to participate in the new school choice selection plan. WCPSS is asking families with children who will be in kindergarten this fall to register and enroll their child now.
Families need to register rising kindergartners to get their child's NC-WISE student ID number before participating in the new school choice selection process for the 2012-13 school year. Parents will use their child's NC-WISE student ID number to complete the online school choice selection form.
The forms you'll need to enroll your child, along with details on registration, can be found on WCPSS website. You can download the forms, fill them out at home and take them to the school on Feb. 2 when you visit to enroll and register your child and tour the school.
To enroll, parents of rising kindergartners should take:
- their child's birth certificate,
- parent/guardian photo ID,
- proof of address in the form of a water, electric or gas bill or a signed lease or rental agreement,
- and their child's immunization record.
You do not need to take your child with you for enrollment.. For all the details, visit http://assignment.wcpss.net/.
